ABEOKUTA—A Non- Governmental Organisation has appealed to Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State to provide a home for the homeless graduates of the juvenile correctional home in Abeokuta.

The President, Stephanie Peace-building and Development Foundation, SPADEV, Dr. Tope Olaifa stated this during 10th Christmas visit the Juvenile correctional home, Asero Abeokuta.

Olaifa, who commended the State Government for the care being given to the inmates of the home, said lack of homes for them after they have served their terms worsens their condition.

She said: “More children are constantly open to the risk of being snuffed out of life through battering, illegal trafficking, parental negligence, homelessness, illiteracy, diseases and exposure to crime. These children need to be rescued from the grip of societal negligence and gross insensitivity.

“One other area requiring urgent attention is the need to provide a home for the homeless graduates of the correctional home. Many of the kids do not have homes to return to having completed their terms.

“In other words, the street is waiting for their return which may result in more disastrous consequences for them and the society.

“There is need , therefore, to provide a place where such children can be cropped and trained in trades of their choice before being returned to the society”.

Others who spoke at the event were, the retired Permanent Secretary, Ambali Ishola and the director, ministry of women affairs and social development, Olubunmi Beckley, who also commended the state government and urged individuals to contribute to the project.
