A’ Court upholds Abia tribunal judgment on Nwagba’s petition

By Anayo Okoli

UMUAHIA—THE Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri, Imo State, has upheld the decision of the Abia State National/State Assembly Election petition tribunal which nullified the election of Mr. Emeka Nnamani of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for Aba North state constituency.

Dr. Blessing Nwagba of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had gone to the tribunal to challenge the election of Nnamani in the April 2015 election.

In its judgment, the tribunal upheld Nwagba’s petition and sacked Nnamani on the ground that he was not a registered member of APGA in his ward at the time of the election.

The tribunal, therefore, ordered for a re-run election for the constituency without APGA participating.

The tribunal also directed the Police to investigate the allegation of certificate forgery against Nnamani, who claimed to have graduated from the University of Port Harcourt, a claim denied by the institution.

Not satisfied with the decision of the tribunal, Nnamani proceeded to the Court of Appeal challenging the judgment of the tribunal, which, however, upheld the decision of the tribunal.
