Nnewi—The Akpu Community, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to set up a high powered panel of inquiry to investigate their exclusion from Orumba North Local Government Area.

The community is also asking the President to cause the panel to investigate “If there is a clear cut boundary between Akpu and Ajalli which is the headquarters of Orumba North council or they are so mixed up with each other and interwoven together that there is no way one can delineate their boundaries.”

The community has been protesting since 1990 against their exclusion from Orumba North council, where they claim, they not only belong, but own the land on which the council headquarters is situated.

They alleged that they were maliciously included in Orumba South council, whose headquarters, Umunze they is said to be over 10 kilometres away from them, while they are housing another council on their land till date.

Addressing newsmen in Akpu, youths led by Prince Anthony Nwafor said, “We are sad being in Orumba South LGA, when we are housing another LGA on our land. Our exclusion from Orumba North must be reversed by the present administration that is now righting the wrongs of successive past administrations in the country.”

In a statement, they said: “Let Federal Government be quick and sensitive to understand the game plans of the people who are our tenants that plotted the exclusion of Akpu from Orumba it is not unconnected with their fruitless efforts to get Akpu community go into extinction, so that they can own the land which is not possible.

“We want to let President Buhari know that one man, who was very close to the corridors of power in 1991, and had the ears of the then Military President, was responsible for the abominable exclusion of Akpu from Orumba North as he single-handedly plotted and executed it to pave way for his community which has been working to force Akpu into extinction.”
