PORT HARCOURT—Pensioners in Rivers State have appealed to the state government to clear the pension of retired primary school teachers in the state.
Chairman of Nigeria Union of Pensioners Rivers State council, Edward Festus-Abibo made the appeal in Port Harcourt.
He said that the retired primary school teachers had not been paid their pension since a circular from the Federal Government on February 14, 2003 transferred payment of primary school teachers to state governments.
“Since this circular was issued by the Federal Government and implemented, the state government had not paid the retired primary school teachers as directed by the said circular. What an unfortunate situation.”
