MAIDUGURI—The Nigeria Police Force has lost over 1,000 of its men in the last six years due to the insurgency in the North-East of the country.
This was revealed by the newly posted Borno State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Shuaibu Gambo, during a courtesy visit to Governor Kashim Shettima at the Government House, Maiduguri, yesterday.
While promising that Borno State will soon witness a lasting peace, he said he is determined to work assiduously to ensure that insurgency is brought to an end within the dateline given by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said: “The IGP has given me a mandate to come and serve the people of Borno State. God willing, we will work hard to see that Borno regain its lost glory as Home of Peace.
He commended the people of the state for cooperating with the security agencies by giving useful information and urged them to continue the good work.
Responding, Governor Shettima said with the new commissioner’s background as the immediate past commissioner in charge of counter terrorism, he believes that the Inspector General of Police is putting a round peg in a round hole.
Shettima said he hoped the new CP will bring his experience to bear in ending insurgency in the state.
