LOKOJA —The Attah Igala, His Royal Majesty, Michael Ameh Oboni, yesterday, called on people of Kogi State to be calm and conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the supplementary governorship election holding across 91 polling units, weekend.
The paramount ruler, who spoke in Lokoja at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, condemned the spate of protests and agitations among political gladiators following the death of Prince Abubakar Audu.
He said there was no reason for politicians and their supporters to take to the streets in protests and thus creating apprehension among people over issues that could be resolved amicably within themselves.
He said: “The days of wars are over. Things can be settled peacefully. What we want is peace and we are all one in Kogi. Let us forget about sentiments and stop making inflammatory statements; after all, power belongs to God and He gives to whom He likes whenever He likes.”
Meanwhile, the state commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ojukwu, has said that there will be 10 policemen in each of the 91 polling units where the supplementary election will be conducted.
Also, the state Director of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, Mrs. Abimbola Agatha, has urged politicians to restrain their supporters from attacking corps members that will be deployed as ad-hoc staff for the election.
