ASABA—DELTA State Ministry of Justice, yesterday, described as untrue, malicious, misleading and embarrassing, allegation of bribery levelled against its Director of Public Prosecution, DPP by Sapele youths over a case of alleged killings and kidnappings by White Ladders cult group in the area.

Sapele youths had last week Wednesday staged a peaceful protest in Asaba, over alleged shielding and plans  to release the suspects from prison custody, which they argued would expose them to grave danger.

The ministry in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Mr Ivovi Aruoriwo, said; “The case file in the alleged subject matter has not even been forwarded to the DPP for legal opinion by the Police, whose duty it is to investigate criminal matters, therefore, the allegations of bribe inducement does not even arise.”

Aruoriwo explained that when the protesters besieged the ministry with various placards, the Solicitor-General/Permanent Secretary including the DPP and other Directors and some Legal Officers were all at Abuja attending the 54th Annual General conference of the NBA.

He said; “To set the records straight, the Ministry of Justice wishes to emphatically state, that we are irrevocably committed to the promotion of the rule of law, justice and fairness at all times. As well trained and highly motivated professionals, we are guided by the code of conduct and ethics of the legal profession as well as that of the Public Service.
