BENIN—A Peoples Democratic Party , PDP, governorship aspirant for next year’s governorship election in Edo State, Chief Solomon Edebiri, has insisted that the state government has no business borrowing, as it has all it requires  naturally and traditionally to survive and prosper. Edebiri, who addressed some Edo  Professionals groups in Benin, weekend, which visited him at his residence, said that a responsible government in the state can harness and muster all the resources to improve the living standards of the people.

He said, “Edo State must be self sustaining. We cannot be borrowing all the time. This is unacceptable. Who will pay these debts, our children? We need to put in the right pegs in the right holes. We need to move from a consuming economy to a producing one.” “We have the capacity to use Edo State as a pilot project to drive this dream for other states and the Federal Government to key into and emulate. We can do this. Yes, we can. It takes just you and I to agree and it is done. Remember, Edo State is the heart beat of the nation.”

Accessing  governance in the state in the last 16years, he said, “When you add the 10 years of previous PDP administration to the almost seven years of All Progressives Congress, APC administration in Edo State, we will be talking about 18 years of political governance by the year 2016. “The foundation we will lay from 2016 will make Edo State a delight to live in even after we are long gone. We will build an Edo economy that is second to none, an economy that will be a pride not only to Nigeria, but the entire West African sub-region.

“Many have forgotten that Benin-city was a major trading city between the colonialists and the rest of West Africa. We shall reenact that. We will build an economy that will give equal opportunities to all, whether you are rich or poor.”
