Kenya finished strongly and ended up being proclaimed King of the World Athletics Championship that ended yesterday in the Bird’s Nest Stadium, Beijing, China.
The East African country garnered a total of 7 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals to emerge tops, ahead of Jamaica that came a close second with 7 gold 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.
Team USA with 6 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze medals placed 3rd in the table.
It is the first time that an African country achieved the title of a World Cup, and also Kenya’s best-ever performance at the global meet.
Russia that won the championship in Moscow-2013, was relegated to ninth place, while China finished eleventh in the first World Cup it organised.
As the second country in Latin America and the Caribbean Cuba finished the championships with two gold medals and one silver.
