IT was outpouring of encomium for the outgoing Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Omolara Erogbogbo, as she retires from civil service. The event held at NECA house, Alausa, Lagos, had in attendance the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, who was the chairman of the occasion and representative of the state.

The occasion, which commemorated the celebrant’s 33 years of civil service and her 60th birthday on 20th this month, attracted personalities such as the immediate past Commissioner for Education, Mrs Olayinka Oladunjoye; Head of Service, Lagos, Mrs Folashade Jaji; Former Special Adviser on Education to the past governor, Otunba Fatai Olukoga; Mrs Oluseyi Williams, past and present Permanent Secretaries of parastatals in Lagos State, representatives from the education community such as from the West Africa Examination Council, family, friends and well wishers.

Omolara Erogbogbo, born in Lagos, started her working career in Lagos State Civil Service in 1982 as a Higher Executive Officer in the State House of Assembly where she served as a Legislative Clerk.

She later converted into administrative cadre in 1983 from where she began her tour that took her through various Ministries and Agencies such as Works, Environment, Hospital Management Board, Information, Local Government Service Commission, Youth, Sports and Social Development, among others.

In recognition of her sterling qualities, in 2005, she became Director, Service Matters, Office of Head of Service, and in 2008, she got appointed as the Permanent Secretary , Ministry of Education.

The celebrant, in her foray in the service’ got several awards for her outstanding performance. The awards included, 2001, Merit Award for the 1st Centenary celebration; Award of Excellence in 2006 in the public service; Lagos State Government Long Service Merit Award and the distinguish award of the Primate of the Anglican Church for excellence in the education sector among others.

The chairman of the event, Dr. Adebule, in her tribute described the celebrant as an amiable and humble person that the state is proud of her contributions for the past 33yrs. She said “as an experienced administrator and leader, you succeeded in showing good relationship among the staff, and for this, I assure you that our administration will continue to reward handwork.”
