Be watchful, not all ex-militants support your presidency, NDLF tells Buhari

By CALEB AYANSINA

ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to watch and pray, as not all ex-militants in the oil rich Niger Delta region supported his presidency as being publicly declared by some of them recently.

The ‘General Officer Commanding, Egbema Zone of the ‎defunct Niger Delta Liberation Force (NDLF) General Alaowei Lawuru said that some notable ex-militants, who worked for the re-election bid of the former president, Goodluck Jonathan, had been parading themselves as the ardent supporters of Buhari, following his victory at the just concluded election.

Lawuru, in a statement on Friday in Abuja, who “bemoaned what he described as the latter days of APC’s crusaders in the region, stated that ‘General Israel Akpodoro’ was he who convinced militant leaders in the region to accept the APC as a party and General Buhari as its candidate.”

He said it was proper to put the record straight for the people to know “who is the genuine ‘agent of change’ among ex-militant leaders in the Delta region.”

Lawuru noted that if not for Akpodoro’s efforts, PMB would not have been able to campaign in the region let alone polled a single vote during the election.

“We call on the president to accord Akpodoro the necessary recognition and patronage as a true leader of the youth population in the Niger Delta region. We admire his courage, zeal and patriotism and we all are pleased with him,” he said.
