PORT HARCOURT— Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has appealed to President Muhamadu Buhari to ask the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to investigate allegations of diversion of government funds levelled against the former Governor Rotimi Amaechi of the state.

Deputy Publicity secretary of the party, Mr Samuel Wonosike, who made the appeal yesterday in Port Harcourt, said such step will help resolve controversies around the allegations against the former governor.

He said that he was surprised that the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Mr Dakuku Peterside could say that some members of the PDP had concluded plans to decamp to the APC because nothing was happening in the PDP.

Wonosike said that what the APC governorship candidate meant was that Governor Nyesom Wike was not sharing money to members of his party.

He said the governor had vowed not to be reckless with public funds, noting that it was why salaries owed workers by the last government were paid and repair work ongoing on bad roads in the state.

“It is unfortunate that Peterside has come to agree that something was wrong with the government of Amaechi. He said nothing was happening in PDP, so some members want to leave. He simply meant that Governor Wike is not sharing money to PDP people. This shows that this is what they were doing with state funds. It shows that they were sharing money among themselves.

“We are asking Mr president to come to the aide of Rivers State by asking the EFCC to investigate the administration of former Governor Amaechi. We will never share money. That is why Governor Wike has paid salaries, cleared fees of foreign students and is working on roads.”

“You can see that the governor did not abandon projects of the former government. He looked at their usefulness and continued with them. He has said that development will come to the state. Wike is a pragmatic leader. He is set to take Rivers State to a height,” he said.
