LAGOS—The maiden edition of the Nigeria Safety Award, billed for September, 2015 at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, has been endorsed by both the Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSC) and the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC)

This was made known by the Chief Coordinating Officer of 9JA Safe Award 2015, who is also the Managing Editor, Safety Record newspaper, Mr Femi Da-silva, while interacting with reporters.

According to Femi Da-silva, the endorsement is necessary in giving the event the needed boost and helping to consolidate the positive public perception of the brand behind the award, which is Safety Record Newspaper. “Safety Record has been in the forefront of the creation of nationwide awareness and sensitization on safety matters in the country, and is berthing with 9JA Safe Award 2015 as its awards icon, being the first Nigeria award in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE). It is open to any individual or organisation committed to practicing Health, Safety, and Environment Management at the workplace in Nigeria,” Da-Silva said.

Lagos State Safety Commission in acknowledging and offering collaboration with the organizers said, “We at the Lagos State Safety Commission have long recognised the importance such relevant recognition and award has in arousing the safety consciousness of the populace through our annual safety champion award. We therefore share the laudable objective of Safety Record newspapers in taking this recognition to a lofty height through the promotion of safety award to our larger society.”

Other organisations which have equally given their endorsement to the award,, according to him, include the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON), Society for Occupational and Environmental Health Physicians of Nigeria (SOEPHON), Fire Protection Association of Nigeria (FPAN), and National Industrial Safety Council (NISC).
