Awka—THE crisis rocking the Anambra State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, deepened following the resignation of the secretary, Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike, barely two weeks after his election.

Chief Uzodike, a former Commissioner for Information during former Governor Peter Obi’s administration, was said to be the candidate of former Governor Obi for the office as most of the major stakeholders were given the opportunity to nominate candidates for the various offices during the state congress  in Awka.

However, a statement in Awka by Uzodike, said his resignation was due to personal reasons.

The statement, which was not addressed to anybody read: “I hereby convey to you, non-acceptance of my nomination for the position of State Secretary of PDP Anambra State due to personal reasons. I shall continue to offer my services to our party, especially towards its total reunification, rebuilding, and reinforcing, thereby ensuring that we become one flock, one shepherd with a focus devoid of personal interest, but that of the party and our state, Anambra. Power must not only belong to the people, but must be seen to so do. Thank you and God bless.”

However, the state chairman of PDP, Prince Kenneth Emeakayi said he was not aware of Uzodike’s resignation.

It was gathered last night that his resignation might not be unconnected with the crisis rocking the party in Anambra State, which had resulted in the emergence of two state chairmen.
