Abuja – Team South West on Saturday defeated North West to win the opening match of the second edition of the U-17 National Female Cricket Championship.
The four matches were played at the cricket pitch of the Abuja National Stadium.
In the first innings, North West won the toss and was elected to field.
South West batted and scored a total of 66 runs in 10 overs with the loss of five wickets.
North West went in to bat in the second innings and scored a total of 48 runs with the loss of five wickets in 10 overs. South West won by 18 runs.
In the second match of the day, South South won South East by three runs.
South South won the toss and elected to bat and scored a total of 52 runs in 10 overs with the loss of 8 wickets in the first innings.
South East went in to bat and scored a total of 49 runs for the loss of six wickets in 10 overs in the second innings.
South South won the game by three runs.
North Central and North West competed in the third match of the Championship.
The toss was won by North West and they elected to field.
North Central batted first and scored a total of 68 runs with the loss of nine wickets in 10 overs in the first innings.
North West went in to bat in the second innings and scored 62 runs with the loss of two wickets in 10 overs. North Central won the game by six runs.
In the last match of the day, South West won North Central by three runs.
North Central won the toss and was elected to field.
South West scored a total of 47 runs with the loss of nine wickets in 10 overs in the first innings.
North Central went in to bat and scored the total of 44 runs with the loss of 10 wickets in 10 overs in the second innings. South West won by three runs.
North West team is currently out of the championship after losing its first two games.
The five teams representing five geo political zones are participating in the championship.
North East was not represented due to the security challenges in the region.
The championship which began on Aug. 8, is expected to end on Aug. 9.
