Bauchi—The Non Academic Staff Union of Education, Bauchi State council, has called on the state government to hasten the implementation of enhanced salary package and allowances for non-teaching staff in the state.
State Council Chairman of the union,Comrade Mukhtar Tukur, who stated this yesterday during the opening ceremony of the 6th NASU State Quadrennial delegate conference at the Development Exchange Centre in Bauchi, lamented that the previous administration was insensitive to the demands of its members, in spite of the fact that non-academic staff in neighbouring states were already benefitting from their respective state governments.
He said that one of the resolutions of the 2011 national conference was that the demands of NASU, including payment of allowances and enhanced salary package, should be implemented in all the 36 states of the country.
“At this juncture, we are calling on the head of service and government under the leadership of Mohammed Abubakar to expedite action on this issue which for years is still in the office of the head of service “
“We are worried that each time agreements are voluntarily reached or entered into, the government reneges in implementation,” he said
Tukur said during the past administration, NASU refused to resort to industrial actions in order to give room for the government and head of service settle down to address the issue, but lamented that the government, out of neglect, only paid entitlements of teaching staff.
In his address on the occasion, the Head of Service, Mr Abdon Dalla Gin, assured that the government was making efforts to address all the pending allowances and outstanding salary package for non-teaching staff in the state.
He called on members of NASU to support the present administration to achieve its goals, saying they should always seek legitimate channels of resolving their grievances.
