ILORIN—Two dare-devil armed robbers were shocked in the wee hours of yesterday as they were overpowered and arrested by brave residents of Iluteju, Ilorin, Kwara State, shortly after dispossessing a resident of N500,000 and a car.
Vanguard reliably gathered that the residents, who had been persistently troubled by armed robbers in recent times, had collectively hired vigilantes to provide security to enable them live a peaceful life in the community.
Vanguard also gathered from the community that shortly after the vigilante left around 7a.m. yesterday, the armed robbers took advantage of their exit to attack the victim with guns and cutlasses.
The victim, who was said to have been threatened through the window with a gun, was forced to open his door after which he was dealt several machete cuts on his body and was subsequently dispossessed of N500,000, while his car keys were also taken from him.
Vanguard, however, learned that unknown to the armed robbers, some of the neighbours, who had already woken up by the time and were watching developments, reportedly mobilised themselves to attack the armed robbers.
The crowd was said to be initially scared of their guns but soon pounced on the robbers, having realised that they had run out of bullets.
Having beaten the suspects to pulp, the residents reportedly tied their hands and handed them over to the police at ‘C’ Division.
