BENIN CITY — CRISIS is  brewing in the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the leadership of the party in Edo North senatorial district, led by the former House of Representatives member for Owan federal constituency, Mr Johnson Abolagba, has called for the dissolution of the state executive of the party led by Chief Dan Orbih and other executives in the 18 local government areas.

It accused the current executive of the party in the state of failing to win any election in the past six years, hence the need to elect new leadership of the party at all levels so that the party will focus on the 2016 governorship election in the state.

But reacting, Vice Chairman (Edo North) of the PDP, Chief Henry Tenebe, described the comments by Abulagba and others as arrant nonsense, saying it was as result of alleged anti-party activities that he was suspended from the party.

The leaders in a letter addressed to the National leadership of the party by Abolagba, S.S.Mayaki and 18 other leaders in six councils in Edo North, under the aegis of PDP Adherents-Edo North Must Win, called for the constitution of caretaker committee at all levels to temporarily run the affairs of the party and organise congresses that will be totally free and fair.

Besides, the group stressed that “Edo North PDP leaders should be allowed to determine its political future rather than its political future being determined by non Edo North leaders or Edo North leaders perceived to be loyal to some national leaders of the party.”
