BENIN — CRISIS is looming in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State as the chairman of the party in the council, Mr. Monday Ogbeta, has been suspended from office by the council and Ward leaders over alleged anti-party activities.

The notice of suspension by Peter Ekeinde and Airadion J.A. for other council  and ward leaders of the party was sent to the state chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, for ratification.

Meanwhile, the ward and council executives have passed a vote of confidence in Mr. Johnson Abologba, a former member of the House of Representatives, who was earlier suspended by the Monday Ogbeta-led council executive, describing him as a responsible and dependable leader.

The leaders of the party at its expanded meeting, at Sabongida-Ora, administrative headquarters of Owan West council, while ordering the suspended party chairman to handover the property of the party at his disposal to the Vice-Chairman, Mr. Festus Ohikhuare, accused him of running the party as a sole administrator.

He was also accused of mismanaging the party’s finances, particularly the fund set aside for the payment of the salary of staff at its secretariat and had permanently locked up the party’s secretariat thereby preventing staff from entering.
