LAGOS—A medical director, identified as Dr. Jatto Stephen, is currently lying critically ill at an undisclosed hospital in Lagos, following gunshot wounds he sustained when armed men suspected to be assassins trailed and shot him.
Dr. Stephen, who is chairman of Ijaiye Ojokoro chapter of Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, and Chief Medical Director of D. Champion Hospital, was said to be on his way home from office on June 24 when the incident occurred.
Vanguard learned that three armed men in a Toyota Corolla car double-crossed him at about 7pm that fateful day but for divine intervention, the doctor would have been killed.
An ey witness, Olatian Waziri, told Vanguard: “Dr. Stephen was driving in his SUV with number plate LSR 684 DA when the gunmen shot him twice and immediately fled the scene.’’
The source added that Dr Stephen would have bled to death but for the quick intervention of the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Alakuko Police Station, Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Musa Alim, who received a distressed call and dispatched anti-robbery team to the scene.
It was learned that it was the police team that took the doctor to a private hospital for treatment.
