A non-governmental organization, Network for Good Governance (N4GG), has rated the performance of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa very high after spending a month in office.
In a statement, the Global Coordinator of N4GG in the United States. Mike Egi, said his organization, which has been monitoring events in Delta was impressed with Okowa’s initiative to create the desired change and development the people have been yearning for.
He recalled that in keeping with the promise made during his inauguration, Okowa forwarded two bills to the state House of Assembly for necessary legislative actions.
“The Bills are ’Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency’ and `Delta State Technical and Vocational Education Board’. Both bills have passed first reading on the floor of the house,” he stated.
According to him, the Bill on Technical and Vocational Education is geared towards fulfilling the governor’s campaign promise to “empower Deltans with the requisite knowledge and entrepreneurial skills for business, trade, and commerce.”
Egi disclosed that while governors in some states were still groping about on what to do Okowa had set-up plans to give strength to the Delta State Oil Producing Development Commission, DESOPADEC, law by restructuring the board and management in line with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) model through an amendment.
He said Okowa’s move to amend the laws of DESOPADEC was a good one hence it would make the agency more effective and productive in delivering on its mandate mostly as the financial situation of the country has made it necessary for prudence.
