PORT HARCOURT— Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has ordered payment of the two months salaries of civil servants he inherited from the previous administration in the state.
It will be recalled that workers in the state’s civil service were owed April and May salaries by the former government before it bowed out on May 29 this year.
The governor, in a statement, promised to give special attention to the welfare of workers in the state’s employ.
In another development, the governor has assured that funding will not affect ongoing rehabilitation work on roads in the state.
He gave the assurance while inspecting work on the East West-Elelenwo-Trans Amadi-Garrison Road.
He said that the East West-Elelenwo-TransAmadi-Garrison Road was important to the economy of the state capital as it cuts across a major commercial zone.
“I am not satisfied with the pace of work on this road, although I understand the reason for the delay. We will pay the contractor next week and we expect him to complete the project within four months,” he said.
