Lagos—The police in Lagos have arraigned 50- year-old  Raggae music star, Victor Essiet, of The  Mandators fame, and one Patricia Enobong before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obtaining $86,376 under false pretence.

They are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, felony, stealing and obtaining money under false pretence.

But they pleaded not guilty to the charges read to them in the court.

Police prosecutor, Superintendent of Police Samson Ekikere, had told the court, presided over by Magistrate Aje Afunwa, that the defendants committed the alleged offences in October 2009 at Adeniran Ogunsanya, Surulere, Lagos.

He said the defendants obtained the said sum from one Etim Maurice through Standard Chartered Bank under the false pretence of buying and delivering five Mack 4 trucks made to carry his goods.

According to Ekikere, the offence is contrary to section 312 (1)(a)(b) and punishable under section 312(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

After their plea was taken, Magistrate Afunwa, however, granted them bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties who must be blood relation, gainfully employed and have verifiable addresses.

She further ordered that the defendants should not travel outside Lagos without the approval of the court and asked one of the defendants to deposit his international passport with the court.

The Magistrate adjourned the matter till October 28, 2015, for trial.
