BENIN—GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has charged the new chairman of Owan West Local Government Area of the state, Mr. Reginald Okun, to avoid the mistakes which led to the removal of the former chairman of the council.

Speaking shortly after swearing in the new council boss, Governor Oshiomhole, said: “I know that you, Okun, are now the new chairman of Owan council. I have no doubt that you recognise that this is a huge responsibility placed on your shoulders to provide leadership for the council of Owan West at the grassroots level.

“You contested and won as a vice chairman and as running mate to the former chairman who has now been formally removed from office on the account of the findings of the commission of enquiry into the activities of Owan West council. A number of issues have been uncovered including clear breach of relevant procurement laws, misappropriation of funds and also poor governance issues.

“I hope that having now assumed office as the new chairman, you will do everything possible to avoid the recurrence of the wrong doings of the former chairman for which he has now be sanctioned. It is bad enough to make mistakes but it is worse to repeat such mistakes.”
