Another opportunity for a silverware eluded Warri Wolves after they failed to beat AC Leopards of Congo in the second leg tie of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminaries. But club chief executive officer, Davidson Owumi stated that the team will now gear all its efforts towards winning the Nigeria Premier League.

“We haven’t done badly in the competition. But now that we are out; all our efforts will be geared towards winning the league,”Owumi said.

He added that Warri Wolves struggled with off field issues such as finances and it would have been better if the club was well funded just like other African countries vying for continental club honours.

Gbolahan Salami in the opening minutes of the second half, opened a flood gate of activities.

The Congolese fought back and were lucky to get their away goal after captain Azubuike Egwekwe deflected a shot from a pull out. Salami extended the lead, as the Wolves pressured the Congolese to no ends, but a couple of missed chances gave AC Leopards the strength to carry on. Oghenekaro Etebo added the third but the fourth goal that would have transported the Warri Wolves to group stages remained elusive.
