The Ime Obi Onitsha (Onitsha Traditional Council) has sympathized with victims of the unfortunate fire incident which occurred at the Upper Iweka Roundabout, Onitsha, on Sunday, when a tanker loaded with premium motor spirit (PMS) rammed into a building.

In a statement by the Palace Secretary, Mr. Nwolisa Agusiobo, the Traditional Council expressed shock at the unfortunate incident that resulted in loss of many lives, injuries and destruction of properties and sends its profound condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident.

“The Traditional Council also sends its heartfelt wishes to those who suffered various degrees of burns as a result of the fire and prays for their quick recovery. It requests all religious denominations and organisations to offer special services and prayers for the deceased and injured in the coming days and weeks, and urges corporate bodies, organisations, and individuals to contribute towards the humanitarian efforts to relieve the sufferings of the affected,” the statement reads.

The Traditional Council called on the authorities to set up a panel to investigate the incident with a view to ascertaining its immediate and remote causes and to forestall a future re-occurrence.
