BOMADI—Niger Delta ex-militant leaders have cautioned President Muhammadu Buhari to be wary of persons campaigning for the scrapping of the amnesty programme granted Niger Delta ex-agitators, accusing them of being wolves in sheep’s clothing whose only ambition is to instigate chaos in the region.
Speaking in Warri, Delta State, after their meeting, the ex-militant leaders, under Phase 2 of the amnesty programme, congratulated President Buhari for his inaugural speech, particularly his pledge to tackle the Niger Delta situation, adding that agitators and well-meaning Niger Deltans were committed to creating the enabling environment the for prosperity of his administration if he would so abide by his words.
Speaking for the ex-agitators, Delta State chairman, Phase 2 of the amnesty programme, Mr. Kingsley Muturu, and National Vice chairman of the group, Mr. Collins Arigo, said that crises in the Niger Delta created good fortunes for a clique in the area, whose efforts were always directed towards causing frictions in the oil-rich area.
They called on Buhari to be vigilant and make efforts to discern the elements making inflammatory comments and unpalatable suggestions to his government through the media as they could be his arch-enemies who do not want his government to succeed.
They alleged that most of such anti-amnesty propagandists were those who, through the instrumentality of youths, vandalise oil pipelines for selfish gains and who are currently disappointed over the prevailing peace in the region.
