ABUJA—The former Minister of Information and governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in the just concluded general election, Labaran Maku, yesterday, said it was totally wrong for Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State to claim victory following the April 11 governorship poll in the state, saying that he should pack his bags at the end of his  tenure today.

According to Maku, it was wrong to swear in Al-Makura for another term in office, as his staying beyond May 28 would amount to illegality.

Maku spoke at a news conference in Abuja, saying that as far as the people of Nasarawa State and God were concerned, Al-Makura’s tenure would expire at midnight today ‘’because he did not win the April 11 governorship election.’’

He stressed if he (Maku) had lost the governorship election, he would have gone to the Government House to congratulate Al-Makura, just to honour his belief in democracy, pointing out that since he won, there was no need for him to congratulate the loser.

“Governor  Al-Makura’s  tenure expired in the heart of the people who did not vote for him, and in the eyes of God almighty, who deserves and makes changes at his own time. So, anything from midnight May 28, (today),  Al-Makura will be occupying the government seat illegally if he goes there.

“I hope that he would hear the clarion call by God not step into that office on May 29, because he did not win the election. As far as the people of Nasarawa State and the voting that took place that day are concerned, and as far as God almighty who presides over the affairs of man is concerned, the tenure of Governor Tanko Al-Makura ceases today,” he said.
