Police arrest 7 suspects; kill one armed robber

WARRI— A homemaker, Mrs. Caroline Botosa, abducted in Warri, Delta State, on April 15, has escaped from her kidnappers, while police have arrested seven suspected members of the kidnap gang.

Details of her escape are not clear yet, but unknown gunmen kidnapped her at about 11.35a.m., along Idundu Street, Warri, last month, and whisked her to an unknown destination in her Toyota Venza car.

Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Police Command, DSP Celestina Kalu, said: “She escaped. Operatives of the anti-robbery section swung into action and arrested one of the suspects on Adjaro Street, Ughelli, in connection with the crime, and also recovered the hoodlums’ operational vehicle, a Vento car, with number plates, AKU 942 AA.”

She said police also recovered Mrs. Botosa’s car, while investigation into the case further led to the arrest of six other suspected members of the gang.

Kalu added that police gunned down a robbery suspect at a shop at Old Lagos Road, Owa-Oyibu, near Agbor, on May 19.

She said: “On May 19, at about 7p.m., the Divisional Police Officer, Owa-Oyibu Division, received information that two unknown gunmen were robbing a shop at Old Lagos Road, Owa-Oyibu. An anti-robbery patrol team was immediately dispatched to the scene.
