Comfort Eyeanugie Primary School, Benin City Wednesday defeated Research Model Primary School, Kawo, Kaduna 2-0 to win the 2015 Channels National Kids’ Cup.
Two first half goals by Samuel Eyinde and Eloghosa Ota ensured victory for the Edo state representatives.
Spectators at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos witnessed plenty of thrilling moments as both sides exhibited skills and dexterity.
Research Model Profile Primary missed the chance to take the lead in the opening minutes of the thrilling encounter. They had themselves to blame as the Eyeanugie Primary School boys made hay with two quick goals to seal the match. The second half produced no goals as the Kaduna side tried to come back into the game to no avail.
Meanwhile, Christ The Kings Primary School, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State defeated Nana Primary School, Warri, Delta State 2-0 to win the third place match of the 2015 Channels Kids’ Cup.
The match which preceded the final lived up to its status as the two sides battled to a goalless first half.
The second stanza started in a frenzy. Christ The King College boys who were mostly at the receiving end in the first half took the fight to their more gifted opponents, dictating the pace upfront and stalling every move by Nana’s number 9. Idongesit was peerless in the defence for Christ The King College. His effort at the rear Sonny paid off when Isaac Ekoma finished off a fine run, beating Nana’s keeper.
With one goal up, confidence grew and the kids from Akwa Ibom absorbed everything Nana boys threw at them.
The referee looked at her watch and just as the match was drawing to a close, Peter Godwin Asuquo masterfully flicked in a wonder goal for Christ The King College , Uyo. A loud ovation greeted the goal. The stoppage time goal killed off the game and confirmed Christ The King College as third place winners.
