MEMBERS of the National Union of Road Transport Workers NURTW in Ondo state Monday protested the scarcity of petrol and the hike in the pump price by Petrol dealers across the state.
As at Monday petrol was sold for between N200 and N300 per litre.
As early as 8am, the taxi drivers mobilized themselves and protested in Akure, the state capital.
They forced their members to drop passengers in their vehicles so as to join in the protest.
Timely intervention of policemen saved the protest from been hijacked by hoodlums who were also mobilizing to join in the protest.
Tear gas was fired to disperse the protesters who were getting agitated.
Speaking with Vanguard, one of the taxi driver Alhaji Adekola Abidoye described the price of petrol as ” killing”
