Fashola boosts judiciary with new Magistrate courts

Lagos—A new magistrate court complex in Ogba, comprising 22 courtrooms, was yesterday commissioned by Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola.

The court complex was named after former Lagos State Chief Judge, Justice Samuel Ilori.

Commissioning the new court, Fashola said such facilities like the complex has a key role to play in maintaining law and order in the society, adding that the court will create conducive work environment for the judiciary staff.

Explaining why it was named after the former judge (Justice Ilori) Fashola explained that it has become the tradition of his administration to honour those who served conscientiously and whose labour of yesterday has made endeavours of today possible.

According to him, Justice Ilori is the first living former Chief judge to be honoured.

Justice Ilori, on his part, pointed out that the historical journey about the new court complex location started while he was the Lagos State Chief Judge and needed more courts for judges, hence he got the location of the new court.

Lagos State Chief Judge, Justice Olunfunmilayo Atilade, thanked Fashola for the new building and the renovation of old ones.
Atilade commended the State Governor for the level of cooperation he has extended to the Judiciary especially in providing a conducive atmosphere for judges to perform their duties.

The Chief Judge also implored all members of the judiciary to work in accordance with the law and fight corruption.

The event was attended by members of the State Executive Council including the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ade Ipaye, Lagos State Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Lawal Pedro (SAN).
