ASABA—UWHERU Traditional Council, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, has condemned media reports calling on Agbaovwe Ofobeye to stop parading himself as the Odion r’ode of Uwheru Kingdom.
Secretary to the traditional council, Chief Benjamin Ohworeko, who fielded questions from newsmen, yesterday, reiterated that Agbaovwe Ofobeye was duly recognised as the Odion r’ode of the kingdom, describing the reports as mischievous and intended to bring disharmony amongst the peace loving people of the kingdom.
He contended that the state High Court sitting in Ughelli had, in its judgment of March 24, 2015, held that the “male son of the quarter who was the first to join or enter the ‘Ukoro’ Society is recognised as Odion of Erovie quarter.
“I want to put it to the people behind the publication that it is not the duty of the Delta State Government to crown traditional rulers. It is the kingdoms that crown their traditional rulers.”
