Yenagoa—Bayelsa State Government, weekend, said it will not compromise the payment of the salary of its workers and will continue to give priority to the welfare and wellbeing of its workforce despite the shortfall in allocation from the Federation Account.

The state government was reacting to a comment by Finance Minister, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, blaming governors for their inability to pay their workers’ salaries due on their alleged failure to heed the advice to make the issue of wage a priority.

The state Information and Orientation Commissioner, Mr Dan Kikile and Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said though the federal allocation to the state had dropped drastically, “the government is committed to the payment of workers’ salaries.”
