The former Commissioner for Finance in Imo State and House of Representatives member-elect, Deacon Chike Okafor has said that the fight against corruption in the country cannot work with corrupt people on the saddle. Deacon Okafor has also faulted the positions of the Senate President, David Mark and some ranking Senators that the National Assembly for the 8th assembly dominated by new members places a huge liability on legislative business because of their inexperience.

Speaking in an interview with Saturday Vanguard, the All Progressives Congress, APC, House of Representatives member-elect said that it was only people with the right frame of mind in terms of leadership that would restore the country to the path of glory. He said that God has visited Nigeria with the election of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, stressing that the former Military Head of State was not an accident in government having occupied the seat before and having contested in previous elections.

On the fresh members of the National Assembly being liabilities to the 8th assembly, Deacon Okafor who is the House of Representatives-elect for Okigwe South Federal Constituency said instead of being liabilities, the newly elected National Assembly members in both chambers would be great assets to the nation.

His reaction was on the comment by the Senate President, Senator Mark, the Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndom-Egba, and some other ranking Senators who had decried the high turn over in the National Assembly where over 70 per cent of the 7th Assembly members lost their bied to return to both the Red and Green chambers, saying it affects the quality of Elegislative process.
