Re-strategise, build a strong opposition ahead of 2019, Ekiyor tells PDP

By Festus Ahon, Asaba
FORMER National President of Ijaw Youth Congress, IYC, Dr Chris Ekiyor, Fariday urged the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to re-strategise and build a strong opposition with a view to reclaiming the government at the centre in 2019 rather than trading blames on the outcome of the 2015 presidential election.

Ekiyor who stated this while chatting with newsmen in Asaba, the Delta State capital, blamed the failure of President Goodluck Jonathan on PDP leadership and his (Jonathan) political appointees.

Advising the PDP leadership to take responsibility for the poor outing of the party at the Presidential election, he appealed to them not to add to the pains of throwing the PDP into opposition.

He added that; “many of our party leaders and President Goodluck Jonathan’s appointees lost the election in their units, wards, local government s and States”.

Ekiyor who is the Delta State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, insisted that the party would have fared better, if the party leadership had provided direction for their followership.

He held that the party hierarchy should be more sincere with themselves and work towards 2019, lamenting that some of them spent their personal monies and time for the party during the election.

Reiterating that the party leadership should allow the sleeping dog to lie, Ekiyor said; “as a party we need to go back to the drawing board and start working; 2019 is just here. We have to start working now if must reclaim the government at the centre and come out of opposition”.
