ABEOKUTA—Scores of Federal retirees under the aegis of Nigeria Union of Pensioners Thursday protested non payment of their 10 months  contributory pension.

The senior citizens, who stormed Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ogun State council secretariat,  Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, lamented  that, failure to pay their entitlements have  subjected them to abject poverty, as well as loss of over 20 members who died during the struggle to get their money.

The protesters who carried placards with inscriptions such as  ‘we have suffered enough after 35 years service to our fatherland’, ’Pencom is owing retirees 10 months arrears of unpaid pension and gratuties’, ’Federal Government pay us now.’

Addressing newsmen, the National Chairman of the union, Samuel Kojusola flanked by other members of National Executive, said the body has noticed some anomalies in the implementation of Reform Act 2014 that is yet to be implemented by the National Pension, Pencom.

He said it was sad to confirm that workers who retired under the contributory pension scheme since August 2014 till date all over the country are yet to have their lump sum or monthly payment settled by National Pension Commission.
