Rivers LG polls: Aggrieved APC members flay primaries

By Jimitota Onoyume

PORT HARCOURT—Some members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, yesterday continued their protest against the primaries of the party held on Monday ahead of the May 23 local government  polls, describing the exercise as a sham.

One of the protesters from  Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state, Mr Kingsley Ogubie, told Vanguard, yesterday,  at the state secretariat of the party in Port Harcourt, that materials for the primary election meant for the council were allegedly hijacked, adding that he was shocked when a chairmanship aspirant declared himself winner when there was actually no primary election in the council.

He said they were protesting what he described as attempts by some chieftains of the party to force a chairmanship candidate on them.

According to him, they had a shadow primary election among all the chairmanship aspirants for the council from the party where one of them emerged winner, insisting that the result be upheld.
