ABUJA – The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned one Ahmed Abdu, an officer of the Nigeria Prisons Service before Hon. Justice Abubakar Kutigi of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.

A statement signed by the ICPC Spokesperson, Rasheedat Okoduwa, yesterday in Abuja said the accused was arraigned on a 2-count charge bordering on fraud.

The prosecuting counsel, Ngozi Onwuka of ICPC alleged that the accused person fraudulently requested for the sum of N250, 000.00 from one Adamu Abubakar to secure him employment with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

According to the statement “Investigations by ICPC revealed that Ahmed had also on different occasions received the sum of N250,000.00 each from five other persons, promising to get them jobs with the Nigerian Immigration Service, Civil Defence or Prisons Service, thereby committing an offence
contrary and punishable under Section 10 (a) (ii) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.”

The accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Counsel to the accused, Albashir Lawal Likko, asked the court to grant his client bail.

Justice Kutigi granted the accused person bail on the sum N200, 000.00 with one surety in like sum, who
must be a civil servant not below the rank of Grade Level nine, and that, the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

The matter was then adjourned to 23rd May, 2015 for commencement of hearing.
