Nnewi—The Guild of Medical Lab Directors of Nigeria has called on President Goodluck Jonathan not to implement the report of the committee headed by former Head of Federal Civil Service, Dr. Yayale Ahmed, if he must sustain the peace currently existing among medical workers.

The Federal Government had instituted the committee, following repeated cycle of acrimony emanating from different salary grades for different group of professionals in the medical field, which gave medical doctors some air of superiority over others.

National President of the Guild, Dr. Fabian Chukwuezi, made the call while addressing newsmen, yesterday, in Onitsha on the need for the medical family to work harmoniously for the benefit of the patients, the general public and the medical profession and its allied unions.

‘’Yayale Committee report was an indirect way of repeating the failed health bill that denied them of their regulatory status, that was what Yayale report metamorphosed into.

‘’Even the Health Act of 2014 which was quite clear with imputes of all the professions, Yayale report violated that one too,” he said.

Chukwuezi, who is also a member of the Governing Board of Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, MLSCN, said  implementing the report was tantamount to putting wool into the eyes of others not to know that the report was almost an attempt to compromise or mitigate power already given to others to regulate and practise their professions.
