UKWO—THE people of Ukwo and Etebi communities in Esit Eket Local Government Area, Akwa-Ibom State, have praised the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, for constructing the long- abandoned access road to the communities.
Group youth leader of Ukwo-Etebi, Mr. Prince Bassey, who spoke with the Niger Delta Voice during a visit to the area, noted that the communities were among the predominantly endowed towns in the state contributing to the national economy, but had been neglected for a long time.
Bassey said that prior to NDDC intervention, the communities had no passable road and potable water with recalled with nostalgia that before the latest development, they could not boast of passable roads and potable drinking water just as their number of unemployed youths was astronomical.
Equally, a Non-Governmental Organization-NGO, Children Strategy for Disaster Reduction (CSDRR), has also extolled the commission for visiting the Ukwo and Etebi people with developmental projects, especially, the construction and completion of the Ukwo-Etebi Road, which has given the people hope and a sense of belonging in the Nigerian project.
