Awka – Mr Ikechukwu Umeh, Member, Anambra House of Assembly (APGA Aguata 1) constituency, says the 6th Assembly will check illegal excavations in the state through legislations.

Umeh said on Tuesday in Awka that illegal excavations, street trading and hawking had become a scourge in the state.

He promised that the 6th assembly would tackle the twin menace of street hawking, street trading and illegal excavations which constitute nuisance to vehicular movement.

He noted that such also posed a challenge to the environment.
Umeh lamented that Anambra was seriously devastated by erosion which was worsened by unregulated excavations by some road construction companies.

“The house will this time be interested in enacting laws that will check the erosion challenges in the state; activities of illegal excavators must also be checked because they contributed to this menace,’’ he said.

Umeh, who was re-elected to the Assembly at the April 11 polls, promised to use his good relationship with the executive to influence road projects in Aguata Local Government Area.

Also speaking, Mrs Vivian Okadigbo (APGA-Oyi) constituency, said the 6th assembly would pass people-oriented laws for the progress of Anambra.
Okadigbo lamented the high rate of unemployment in her constituency and promised to push for more industrial-oriented legislations to generate jobs.

Okadigbo, who was also re-elected, said she made her marks in the building of healthcare facilities, schools and economic empowerment for her people in the outgoing dispensation and promised to do more.

The lawmaker promised to see to the upgrading of the Ogbunike Cave to an international tourist destination to uplift the social and economic life of Oyi constituents.

“Employment, healthcare and education are among the demands of my people though I was able to establish a healthcare centre there with free services but the needs are still there.

“The legislature will support the governor to continue his good work and my assurance is that having benefited, my constituents will continue to support Gov. Obiano and the party,’’ she said. (NAN)
