BENIN—MINORITY Whip of the House of Representatives and Edo South senatorial candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Samson Osagie, has urged the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Benin City, to cancel the entire election in the seven local government areas of the Edo South, over alleged rigging and manipulation of election results, unprecedented acts of violence and acts which violated and breached the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2010.

He is contending in his petition before the tribunal, that the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Matthew Urhoghide, was wrongly declared winner of the election by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

He is further contending that the conduct of the election in many polling units in Edo South was characterized by multiple thumb printing of ballot papers and stuffing of ballot boxes by “the agents of Urhoghide and PDP, coupled with outright manipulation of results.

Osagie in the petition by his counsel, Chief Adeniyi Akintola, SAN, is further contending that the declaration of Urhoghide as winner of the election by INEC, “is a clear violation of the electoral process because Urhoghide did not score the majority of lawful votes cast.”
