Lagos—Activities at the office of the Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola were disrupted by students of the Lagos State University, LASU, protesting over the continued closure of the institution by the management led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor John Obafunwa.
The protesters, who stormed the governor’s office at about 1pm, barricaded the entrance immediately, demanding for immediate re-opening of the school.
The protest came one month and seven days after the institution management shut the school on March 23rd, to allow the students participate in the just concluded 2015 general elections.
Vanguard however gathered that aside the electoral violence cited by the school management, the acrimony between the Non Academic Staff Union, NASU and the school management, which accounted for the postponement of the 20th convocation scheduled for March 18 and 19, 2015.
They (the students) argued that the continuous closure of the institution after the elections is increasing the years they were expected to spend in school.
The protesters who were armed with placards which reads: “we are tired of sitting at home; Re-open LASU Fashola before you go; After election, wetin remain?; We are ready to resume; We want to graduate o! among others.
