UNN Cricket Club of Enugu have emer-ged winner of 5th edition of the South-East cricket championship tagged Chuma Anosike Cup as they defeated perennial rivals Royal Cricket club of Anambra by 32 runs at the cricket pitch of Government College Umuahia.

Anambra won the toss and chose to field . UNN batted first and scored 91 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 15 overs.

All efforts made by Royal Cricket Club of Anambra to up turn the scores in the second innings proved insufficient as they ended their innings with 60 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 15 overs.

Owerri cricket club of Imo State came third after defeating Ebonyi state by 2 wickets in an explosive third place match.

The sponsor of the tournament, Barrister Chuma Anosike said this year’s edition was a reflection of the development of cricket in the South-East region of the country adding that in near future some of the newly cricket states like Ebonyi, Imo would play at the final if their displays at the tournament were anything to go by.

According to Anosike, “Overall, I am impressed with what I have seen and I want to thank the host Abia because they have lived up to the challenge by hosting a near flawless tournament.”
