ABUJA – Ahead of the inauguration of the 8th assembly by June, Senators-elect and House of Representatives-elect yesterday night started their inaugural induction on the skills for legislative works.

The induction which was the first time co-sponsored by the National Institutes for Legislative Studies, NILs and the National Assembly was aimed at acquainting the newly elected federal legislators the necessary skills required in carrying out their constitutional roles.

Speaking at the occasion, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu said it was meant to impact on the legislators the rudiments of leadership.

He noted that there was the need to carry the members of states assembly along so as ensuring that they are equipped adequately on the roles expected of them.

Also speaking, the Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Mekasua said the exercise was to acquaint the legislators with the basic knowledge to function, adding that it attracts Diplomats and senior legislative officers that will engage them on parliamentary immunities, security and governance among others.

Chairman of National Assembly Service Commission, Dr. Adams Fika said the election and re-election of the lawmakers was a proof of their credibility and acceptability by their constituents.

He said that the country has just conducted a peaceful election and had through it demonstrated to the world that the nation is capable of surmounting its challenge.
