Maiduguri – Representatives of women groups in Borno State, yesterday, called on the incoming administration of General Muhammadu Buhari, rtd, to bring more women into his government or at least retain the 35 percent affirmative action for women as already implemented by the outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan.
Coordinator of the women and President of Women for Peace and Security, WPS, Hajiya Hauwa Ahmed, at a news conference in Maiduguri, said more women should brought into governance in order to achieve equity and equal participation, among the citizens, particularly at the federal level.
Ahmed said despite the challenges faced by the people of Borno State, particularly women and girls as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency in the north east region, women NGOs in the state were still working persistently to ensure that women and girls exercised their civic rights especially in education, politics, income generation and productivity.
