BENIN CITY—THE Chairman, Board of Internal Revenue in Edo State, Chief Oseni Elamah, yesterday, disclosed that the state government has earned only N62million from the implementation and enforcement of the Land Use Charge law, saying the said amount was collected out of the N900 million assessment that had been carried out.

Chief Elamah, who disclosed this in a chat with journalists in Benin City, said initial focus of the government was on high net worth individuals living in  Government Reservation Area.

He said: “We have spent huge amount of time and money in spite of the disinformation that has been there over time, to get people to understand what the law represents and how it works.

“There are certain people that are exempted from the law. It is only when you have a property on a land that is above 50 feet by 50 feet that you are eligible to pay. We have then focused on high net worth individual areas. We have carried out assessment of over N900m, but what we have been able to get people to pay is not more than N62m.”
