Anambra South: Ndukwe goes to tribunal

By Clifford Ndujihe

THE All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Anambra South Senatorial Candidate, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, has filed a petition at the Elections Tribunal in Awka, challenging the declaration of the People Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate, Mr. Andy Emmanuel Uba, as the winner of the election by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Petition, with suit number EPT/AWKA/S/12/2015, is seeking a declaration that the PDP candidate was not elected by a majority of the lawful votes cast at the March 28 National Assembly election and that the PDP candidate at the time of the election was not qualified to contest the said election.

Ndukwe, who expressed firm belief that the tribunal will do justice in the matter is also praying the tribunal to declare him as the winner of the election.

He said: “I have no doubt that the Tribunal is made up of a team of tested professionals, who will not only promote the rule of law but will also seek to advance the frontiers of good democratic processes in Nigeria. Hence, my complete trust and belief that my mandate will be returned as expressly and as timely as possible.

Dr Ndukwe stated that having been on ground to witness the unprecedented level of irregularities during the election and at the various collation centres, he wasn’t going to leave such impunity and rape of the express wishes of the people unchallenged because it would amount to betrayal of the highest order as he is convinced that a democracy built on such crass brigandage is not one to be passed onto the next generation.

“I am a firm believer in the fact that truth will always prevail and that justice as we all know, can only be delayed, not denied,” the former Nigeria Communications Commission, NCC, boss added.
