Organisers of sporting events have been advised to make security of athletes, guests and spectators a priority when setting their plans for such events.

Speaking with the media in Lagos yesterday, the chief executive officer of K Square Security, who doubles as the chairman of the Lagos State Basketball Association, Kunle Komolafe said events organisers who often ignore the importance of security at the planning stage end up regretting.

“Whether it is a football match, a Karate event, swimming or any other sporting event, there must be security; trained personnel who will provide that perfect sense of protection in the athletes, spectators and guests alike. It is they who control the inflow of guests and spectators,” Komolafe said.

“A CCTV can, for instance help I resolving certain intriguing decisions by officials in a sporting event. Even when an athlete complains of a missing item, a CCTV can come in handy in identifying who picked it,” he said.

Although Komolafe acknowledged it could sometimes be problematic due to frequent power failure in the country, he said an inverter can provide a solution to the power problem.

He said his organisation which has been in operation for over a decade has, in addition, to providing security at events introduced home and personal security to its profile.
